Dutch Language Café (DLC)

It's a really unique place to practice your dutch language skills, no matter whether you're a beginner or advanced. Very cozy atmosphere with very nice people, a lot of games and activities to do like table tennis, musical instruments, cooking evenings and much more! :)

I started going to the Dutch Language Cafe in January 2019. All my previous knowledge in the language came from Duolingo. Is now July 2019 and I’m so happy because now I can actually have a very basic conversation in Dutch and is all thanks to the Dutch Language Cafe from Roben!!! The cafe is great because is divided in groups (mainly internationals) for beginners, intermediates, and advanced and there is always a Dutch person leading the conversation, which makes it a perfect way to learn. Also, we play games and have different activities on the weekends which makes it a lot of fun. I can really recommend it to anyone wanting to learn Dutch!!

I’ve been coming to this café for about 8 months now, and it has become my second home. The staff are super friendly, and the service is always excellent. What really makes this café special is the amazing community. There are regular language exchange evenings, board game nights, and social events where you can meet new people, practice languages, and make friends. Thanks to this supportive environment, I went from barely speaking Dutch to now having Dutch job interviews, all within a few months! If you're looking for a cozy café with a friendly vibe, great coffee, and fun events, this is the place to be. Highly recommend for expats, locals, students, and anyone who enjoys a warm and welcoming space to relax, learn the language in a natural way, and connect.

When I joined Dutch Language Café 10 months ago, my only knowledge of Dutch came from the app Busuu and watching some Dutch TV. I was amazed that even with my basic level I was able to speak to people and play a simple game at the first board game evening I went to! People there are so kind and welcoming, you feel at home right away, and it's totally fine to make mistakes or look up a word on your phone when you get stuck. Since then I've done so many things I couldn't have imagined doing before, including reading 3 books in Dutch for the 'boekenclub', organising museum visits and tours as part of the 'cultuurteam', getting everyone to cook a traditional English pie with me, and of course, speaking LOADS of Dutch with real people!! I love how everyone can bring their own hobbies, skills and traditions, and share them with other people. If you want to join an amazing community, make new friends and learn way more than you could in a classroom, then DLC is the perfect place to be :)

The Dutch language Cafe is a great hangout option with very interesting activities/games and an opportunity to meet very interesting people. The fact that we can do all this while also improving Dutch language skills is a huge bonus. No amount of training (classroom or otherwise) can help with improving language skills as much as using the language in social situations. Thanks to the varied type of activities we have here, we get to have lots of different types of conversations.

The best place to play games, meet new people, and practice Dutch, of course! Alk the people I've met through DLC speak Dutch very well for the amount of time they've been in the Netherlands. The people are amazing, and there's fun events every week. I love it here.
